I tried Pole Dancing

pole dancing

T’was my first day off work, I had weekends, but getting day off during weekdays almost feel magical y’know?! No pressure to get up in the morning, no plan, no responsibility at all, even if it’s just one day. So I woke up lazily when the sun was already up high, and not even bother with breakfast. Per usual, I opened Facebook and checked out the notifications for the day. It said that I was interested in Pole Dancing Taster Class for the day, and it’s true that I have been interested for a while now but hesitated considering my lack of arm strength and tbh I don’t think I can be as graceful and sexy anyway. BUT I do actually want to try everything at least once in my life, so really when will this opportunity came up again? A random taster class happen to be on my random day off? Sounds like an intriguing coincidences to me! Still I did not book it right away, not sure if I do want to work out on the evening, hours before sleeping, and the fact that I have to work the next day too.

So I just got up from the bed, washed my hair clean, did my make up in peace (for once!), and get ready to go out by 12,  when the hubby came back home for his lunch and decided to drop me off on the city centre while grabbing some food there. So I was in town for the afternoon! Yeay! Ahh- back to my favourite scene, just lounging in a cafe with my laptop, spending hours sipping on my iced coffee. Life feels good again 🙂 After spending some time on my comfort space, I finally muster up the courage to f*ck it and do what I want to do. I said to myself that it will be a good challenge and to remind myself when life gets exciting and just a tad impulsive. Sooooo I booked the class, paid all done and take the bus home for quick BBQ. To be fair, doing BBQ on our backyard when the warm sun shines on me is one of life’s pleasure as well. It just happen that the piece of steaks we bought were just cooked perfectly then, as in perfectly medium rare with nice coat of flavours on the outside. I think I munched at least a good double portion of the steak while worrying if I ever be able to move my body around during the Pole Dancing class.

It was 6 PM and I rushed to the bus stop to catch the last bus to arrive before half 7. Upon arriving there around 7PM , it was a bit confusing just to find the entrance since it is located on a warehouse like building. I spent at least 10 mins walking back and forth trying to find the entrance, silly me! So if you’re walking from the main road / Bedminster Parade, you’ll see BV building on your left, then walk straight past the sign, past the Windmill Farm on your right hand side, then you’ll see the entrance on your left hand side. It was just a small door next to the rolling door, there is leaflet sticked there containing information of the owner’s number & extension to press to gain access to the building. It was also a bit quietly scary & confusing going in the building to find the studio.

When I finally found the studio, the owner of the studio & also the main instructor, Robyn, opened the door & greeted me warmly. The first thing I notice is the ceiling to floor drawers to store the attendees’ bags & sexy heels stored up neatly there too. Behind the drawers is where the dancing area is, and it looks inviting & sexy at the same time. The lights are of pink shades with fairy lights all over the walls, sexy heels lining up near the ceiling, six poles and disco balls as well. When I need to change my clothes to workout clothes, there is room divider at the corner which is private enough to change for me. Finished with my clothes changing, I was listening to all the ladies there chatting up excitingly before trying out Pole Dancing. They all come from different background, different motives in joining in the class, most of them wanted to feel sexy in their own bodies, others are not so open but everyone seems nice. I also love how there is no judgment nor pressures regarding your shape, size, and even your ability to do perfectly in this taster class.

It was half 7 when we finally started our class, starting with a bit of warm up especially for the joints. I thought we’ll start off easy there but the first thing I need to do is to hang on the pole with my feet off the floor and pause there. It may sound easy but I found it the hardest to pause on a stance than moving around. Secondly, we practiced sliding down on the pole and standing up in a sexy motion which I found easier than the first one. Thirdly, we tried sliding down in a circular motion around the pole. This time, I found it hard to slide smoothly in perfect circular motion. Fourthly, the instructor asked us to again practice the sliding down in circular motion but also add another sexy dance moves lifting myself off the floor after laying flat on it. Last but not least, it was the hardest move of all since not only did I need to pause my stance on the pole but also intertwined my legs so that it’s firm enough to take my hands off the pole, especially considering how thick & inflexible my thighs are. At the end of the class, it was not as tiring as doing cardio exercises, but I definitely feel like I exercised some of the muscles and joints I almost never use before.

So the verdict for the taster class is overall pretty good introductory session, seems like I did try all the basics there. Even if I might be the worst among fellow tasters nor did I have any sufficient talent / passion in there. What an experience! That’s one thing off my bucket list!
